The 2022 National Purple Heart Hall of Honor $5 gold coin, whose design complements that of the silver dollar and half dollar, features an obverse with a design of the medal hanging from a ribbon designed by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and sculpted by Donna Weaver, while the reverse has a facsimile of the signature of Washington under an image of the Badge of Military Merit and over a textured stripe that runs across the middle of the coin.
Each coin carries a $35 surcharge payable to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor to support its missions, including capital improvements at its museum.
These coins went on sale on February 24, 2022 and were initially priced at $671.25 for the uncirculated coins (Buy on eBay) and $681.25 for the Proof (Buy on eBay) with prices varying by week depending on the average price of gold.
